About
The Charleston Daily Brief is a plain, fast summary of what happened today in Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties — and a set of links to the newsrooms that reported it.
It exists because local news here is spread across a dozen sites, a handful of school district feeds, a few city and town notice pages, and the National Weather Service. Nobody has time to check all of that every morning. This checks them twice a day and puts the results on one page.
What it does and does not do
Every headline links out to the publisher who did the work. We show the headline, the source, the time, and where we have it, a one-sentence summary written here in our own words. We do not reproduce article text, we do not host anyone else’s reporting, and we do not put our name on it. If a story interests you, the link takes you to the people who wrote it, and they get the visit.
There is no newsroom here. Nothing on this page is original reporting. It is a reading list, kept honestly.
Weather
Conditions, forecasts and alerts come straight from the National Weather Service office in Charleston. Alerts are shown as issued, not paraphrased. We keep every alert we collect, so over time the site can tell you how unusual a given week actually is.
Who runs it
Bowen Craft. I build software in South Carolina — most visibly PaperBrain, a private AI assistant with a memory, and a handful of other small things listed below.
The Brief started as a personal fix. I wanted to know what had actually happened in the tri-county each morning without opening a dozen tabs, and nothing did that in one place. It is built and maintained by one person, which is why it looks the way it does: quick, plain, and pointed at other people’s reporting rather than dressed up as its own.

Something wrong, a source we should carry, or a story we missed? Say so — it is a small operation and easy to fix.
